I met Lanxy in 2017 when she came to India to reinvent herself (whatever that means). I believe that a series of serendipitous events brought Lanxy into our lives, quickly and rudely interrupting all of our plans to carve out a very large room for this random and seemingly adorable traveller from China.

From the get go, Lanxy was all kinds of crazy, but most importantly, she was MY kind of crazy. We figured out pretty quickly that we liked doing all of the same things. And I think that overtime, in a quest to help Lanxy reinvent herself, I too started to find pieces of myself. Needless to say, my sister and I soon came to think of Lanxy as family.

Lanxy stayed at my house in Delhi for a little under a month, but I swear on some days it felt like I'd known her forever. Her fondness for a weird combination of meditation and heavy metal confused me and amused me, all at once. And then one day, quite suddenly, it was time for Lanxy to go.

Lanxy vanished into the departures gate at the Delhi airport and probably went hurtling into the vastness of the universe like a needle in a haystack. And who could say for sure, if I'd ever meet Lanxy again.

Tonight, Lanxy is picking me up at my hotel in Nanshen, Shenzhen. We're probably going for dinner and a walk around town or some such Lanxy-like plans.

You know, as one does when you meet the best person ever for the second time in your life.
